2020 Year End Video – Stronger Together!

Dear bros,

2020 is definitely the most memorable year of our life time. Covid has brought the entire world to a standstill and taken the lives of many loved ones. For oba, we were also forced to cancel many gatherings including our signature event – the annual dinner.

To sum up the Diocesan Spirit this year, Simon Tang and I have directed this 2020 year end video. Not only do we want to provide a summary on what has happened in the diocesan family this year, we also want to end in a more positive tone with our slogan – STRONGER TOGETHER! By being together, we would be able to navigate the stormy waters safely!!! Enjoy!!!

Legal Chapter Dinner 2016

DSOBA Legal Chapter Dinner with Hon. Henry Litton, GBM, CBE, QC, JP

To celebrate our fourth anniversary, we are delighted to announce that the DSOBA Legal Chapter Dinner will take place at The Chinese Club, 8th floor, Chinese Club Building, Nos. 21-23, Connaught Road on Tuesday, 15th November 2016 (6.30 pm onwards).

This year, we shall be very pleased and honoured to have with us Hon. Henry Litton (Class of 51), Former Permanent Judge of the Court of Final Appeal (CFA), as our guest speaker.

The Honourable Henry Litton, GBM, CBE, QC, JP:-

Born in Hong Kong, Mr. Litton’s family goes back three generations as Hong Kong belongers.  He was educated at Diocesan Boys’ School during his early years before he moved to England and studied at King’s College, Taunton and Merton College Oxford, where he graduated with honours in jurisprudence in 1956.

Mr. Litton was called to the English Bar in 1959 and admitted to practise in Hong Kong in 1960.  He was further called to the Inner Bar and appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1970.  He also served as Chairman of the Bar Association of Hong Kong from 1971 to 1973, from 1977 to 1980 and again from 1983 to 1985.

Before his appointment to the Bench, he acted as deputy judge of the Supreme Court of Hong Kong (subsequently known as the High Court since 1997) on many occasions and served as the chairman of many statutory boards and tribunals, such as the Board of Review (Inland Revenue Ordinance) and the Appeal Board Panel (Town Planning).  He was also the Legal Adviser to the Basic Law Consultative Committee between 1987 and 1990, and was the Adviser to the Hong Kong & Macau Office on Hong Kong affairs in 1992.

Mr. Litton was directly elevated from the Bar to the bench in 1992 as a Justice of Appeal in the Court of Appeal, the first of such appointment in Hong Kong.  He became the Vice-President of the Court of Appeal in 1995.  In 1997, he was further appointed Permanent Judge of the Court of Final Appeal when China resumed its sovereignty over Hong Kong.

In 1999, Mr. Litton was appointed an Honorary Bencher of the Gray’s Inn – which is one of the four Inns of Court in London and its Honorary Benchers are strictly limited.  He retired in 2000 and had become Non-Permanent Judge of the CFA for 15 years until 2015.  Currently, as an Honorary Professor of Law in the Faculty of Law at the University of Hong Kong, Mr. Litton continues contributing to the development of the law in Hong Kong.

Mr. Litton has kindly agreed to share his career expertise and life experiences with us at the upcoming dinner.  Please do not miss this very exclusive and valuable opportunity to meet with one of our most distinguished old boys.
